Marcello’s Chophouse in the ABQ Uptown shopping center has at least one unique thing going for it. The restaurant is the only one that is independently owned in the popular development. (The Melting Pot does have a local owner, but is a franchise location.) Juan Corona, Marcello’s assistant general manager and wine director, says the distinction is a positive selling point.

“Recently, chain restaurants have been succeeding and local businesses sometimes get pushed aside,” Corona said. “Marcello’s ninth year in business can be seen as a success story for Albuquerque.”
